Jeffrey Benton

Jeffrey David Benton was born on 14 November 1947, the eldest child of Alan David Benton (1918-2005) and Thelma D. Benton née Alder (b.1923). His birth was registered in the 4th quarter of 1947 in the Wood Green registration district and his father was a tailor's cutter.

Electoral registers between 1948 and 1965 show his parents living at 87 Stapleton Hall Road, Stroud Green, London, N4 4RH. He had a younger brother, Keith R. Benton (b.1950) and two younger sisters, Ann Louise Benton (b.1963) and Sarah Jane Benton (b.1966).

In 1972 he married Valerie M. Grimes (b.1953) in Enfield and telephone directories from 1972 listed him at 66 Woodfield Drive, East Barnet, Barnet, EN4 8PB. He was a 'jobber' at the London Stock Exchange.

He died, aged 27 years, on 26 March 1975 as a result of injuries he received in the Moorgate tube disaster on 28 February 1975 and his death was registered in the Stepney registration district. Probate records confirm his home address as 66 Woodfield Drive, East Barnet and that when administration of his estate was granted on 2 July 1975 his effects totalled £24,001.
