Alan Charles Senitt was born on 26 December 1978, the eldest of the three children of Jack Adrian Senitt (1949-2011) and Karen B. Senitt née Kosky (b.1952). His birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1979 in the Brent registration district. His two siblings were Emma Louise Senitt (b.1982) and James Perry Senitt (b.1983).

Electoral registers in 2004 show him listed at 7 Dukes Avenue, London, N3 2DE and in 2005 & 2006 at Flat 3, Raffles House, 67 Brampton Grove, London, NW4 4BU.

He completed a year of a master's degree at the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) Centre for International & Diplomacy Studies, during which he was the Chair of the Union of Jewish Students. He then went to Washington to work as an intern on Capitol Hill. He was murdered, aged 27 years, on 9 July 2006 in Washington in a street attack.
