Suffragettes' Women's Hall

This 1893 map (extract here) shows a hall, Salisbury Hall, beside the pub (Morpeth Arms) set back behind a house on Old Ford Road.  This 1870 map shows the hall labelled 'Bethal Chapel (Baptist)'. We can find no more about it, such as when was it built, when demolished and what did it look like.

The plaque says that Sylvia Pankhurst & Norah Smyth lived 'here',1914-24. Perhaps they lived in the house that fronted the road and used the hall in their back garden for their meetings, restaurant. etc.

According to Her History Cost Price canteens were set up at three locations and there is a photo there, but we cannot be certain that it shows the canteen in Salisbury Hall.
