Unnamed cyclist

About this death the papers reported: "A cyclist was almost twice over the legal limit for drink-driving when he rode off the pavement into the path of an oncoming bus after celebrating his 21st birthday, an inquest heard today." They also reported his name but the parents had asked that this not be publicised so we will respect that.

On city streets drunk, or careless, drivers may injure or kill vulnerable road users but they are most unlikely to suffer serious injuries themselves. A drunk cyclist, or one who has a moment's inattention, is very unlikely to hurt anyone, except themselves. This inequality is seldom recognised by the vocal anti-cyclist campaigners.
