redevopment of Stonebridge Estate

Categories: Property

Not to be confused with the Stonebridge Estate in Brent which sounds very rough but if you believe Iain Sinclair, in 1991 the one in Haggerston was not much better.

Wikimapia shows the boundaries of the estate and tells us “This estate was knocked down and rebuilt due to High crime rate. There is one high rise block that remains from the old estate up at the north end of the estate.”  This block is Acton House a large six-storey block built as public housing as part of the Stonebridge Estate and approved in 1950.   The rest of the Estate was in the 1980s redeveloped as low rise houses and flats.
