Henry Lowenfeld

Entrepreneur, theatrical impresario. Born as Henryk Loewenfeld in Poland, he emigrated to England in the early 1880s. Hee he produced spot-removing fluid which sold very well, then he opened a patent registration office which was also profitable. He then became manager of the Lyric Theatre.

1890 he founded Kops Brewery. On 30 May 1892 he sent a long letter to the Freemason promoting the benefits of a national drink reform. It was also published in the South Wales Daily News so we imagine he sent it far and wide.

1899 he opened the luxury Ocean Hotel, Sandown, Isle of Wight. 1901 he built the Apollo Theatre and this was his biggest financial success.  Divorced in 1902. Both his daughters become pioneering doctors. He used the money he accumulated in the UK to to buy an estate in Poland. Died Paris.
