Brian Dorling

Categories: Cyclist, Tragedy

Killed by a tipper lorry on a Monday 8.30 am on his daily cycling commute from Hounslow to his job as a senior cost consultant at the Olympic site.

Andrew Behan has kindly carried out further research: Brian Robert Dorling was born on 23 January 1953 and his birth was registered in South Middlesex. He was the son of David Ralph Dorling and Gwendoline Margaret Dorling née Cantell and the family were living at 43 Connaught Road, Teddington, Middlesex. In 1978 he married Judith C. A. Hall, in Richmond-upon-Thames. They later divorced and on 16 April 1987 he married Debra S. Candy in Richmond-upon-Thames. They had three children, Charles Cantell Dorling, whose birth was registered in November 1987 in Hounslow; Alexandra Candy Dorling, whose birth was registered in August 1990 in Hounslow and Rowena Margaret Dorling, whose birth was registered in October 1996 in Hounslow. Electoral registers from 2003 to 2010 show him living at 123 Wills Crescent, Whitton, Hounslow, TW3 2JE.

He died, aged 58 years, on 24 October 2011 whilst riding a pedal cycle when he was in a collision with a Heavy Goods Vehicle at the Bow Flyover Roundabout, Bow, London, E.3. In 2013 at the Inner London Crown Court, the driver of the lorry, David Cox of Chalfont St. Giles, Buckinghamshire, pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and was sentenced to six months imprisonment suspended for one year, 100 hours of community service and banned from driving for two years.
