Born Turin. Lived in France most of his life but escaped to London in 1848. Became Victoria and Albert's favourite sculptor. Buried in France.
His 1864 statue of Sir Mark Cubbon, created in London, stands in Cubbon Park, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.
