Between 1952 and 1954, the Joint Services School for Linguists was located at Coulsdon Common Camp. Here linguists were trained for covert work, their vigilance contributing to national security during the Cold War.

It seems strange that the Dean of Armagh, based in Armagh, Ireland should be residing in what would then have been a village to the north...
A lovely and unusual plaque - we cannot discover when, nor by whom, it was erected.
