Plaque

Garraways Coffee House

Erection date: 1930

Inscription

The site of Garraways Coffee House. Rebuilt 1874. Set here 1930.

The grasshopper was Thomas Gresham's family symbol and appears on a number of buildings in this area, in particular the Royal Exchange. Presumably it indicates that this lovely and very popular plaque was erected by the Gresham family or their business interests.
