Vera Brittain

Born Newcastle-under-Lyme. Writer, reformer and pacifist, best known work: "Testament of Youth". Met Winifred Holtby at Somerville College, lived with her after graduation. She later wrote "Testament of Friendship" about their long relationship. Died in a nursing home at 15 Oakwood Road, Wimbledon. Her daughter is the Liberal politician Shirley Williams.
