"Victory in Europe". 8 May 1945 was the day on which the WW2 Allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany. Throughout Britain street parties were held. In the centre of London people celebrated by gathering in crowds in Trafalgar Square and surrounding streets.
