The 1861 census shows him living at 332 Marylebone Road with a daughter and two sons. He was by then a widower and gave his occupation as a Paper Stainer. He died on 21 February 1866, aged 65 years, at 3 Western Villas, Ealing, although his main residence was still 332 Marylebone Road. In his will he gave his occupation as Paperhanger and Decorator.
