Terrence Alonzo Best was born on 9 December 1932.

On 20 August 1959 he is shown as arriving in Southampton, Hampshire, aboard the S.S. Ascania having departed from Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. His occupation was given as a police constable and his intended address within the UK was recorded as 56 Percy Road, Kilburn, London. He was travelling with four women: L. Best (b.24 September 1927), J. A. Best (b.1 November 1954), M. A. Best (b.4 October 1956) and M. J. Best (b.2 May 1958).

He died, aged 54 years, in the King's Cross Underground Station fire on 18 November 1987. He was buried on 2 December 1987 in the London Borough of Camden.

Administration of his estate was granted on 15 August 1989 and probate records show his home address to have been 4 Levine House, 21 Broadhurst Gardens, London, NW6. His effects were shown as not exceeding £70,000.

The subsequent fire investigation report described him as a local authority employee.
