Sydenham air raid
Event From 19/5/1918 To 19/5/1918
After losing too many Zeppelins, the Germans started using Gotha aircraft for bombing raids. Sydenham was one of the last raids of the war. The newly formed RAF put up considerable resistance, destroying many of the planes. A 100kg bomb fell on the corner of Sydenham Road and Fairlawn Park. It killed eighteen people including five soldiers, and destroyed several businesses. More information at Running Past.
