Sir Antony Mark David Gormley, OBE, RA

Categories: Sculpture

Known professionally as Antony Gormley, he is a sculptor and is most famous for 'The Angel of the North' in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. Almost all his work takes the human body as its subject, with his own body used in many works as the basis for metal castings. He treats his own body as representative of all (male) human bodies but in effect many of his works are self-portraits.

His website and his Wikipedia page give much information about the man and his works.

His work in London includes: a standing figure on the roof at the Camden Roundhouse, a sitting figure in Maygrove Peace Park and a large squatting figure at the Mayfair Beaumont hotel.  More noted at the splendid Londonist.
