Russell Henderson

Musician. Born Russell Audley Ferdinand Henderson in Belmont, Trinidad. He came to Britain in 1951, and is most widely recognised as one of the founding figures of the Notting Hill Carnival.

Video describing the event which triggered the idea of the Notting Hill Carnival.

Andrew Behan has advised us that telephone directories from 1958 to 1970 show him listed at 24a Bassett Road, London, W10 and from 1972 at 31 Linden Road, London NW10 5RE. The latter address is confirmed as he is also shown here on electoral registers from 2003 to 2010.

He died, aged 91 years on 18 August 2015.
