Rhaune Laslett-O'Brien

Born as Freda Pulverness in Stepney but lived most of her life in and around West London.  After WW2 the housing conditions, the poverty and the racial mix in Notting Hill brought out her skills as a community champion.

In 1959 Claudia Jones had initiated a Carnival but it was held indoors. In 1966 Laslett, with others from the London Free School, introduced a multi-day Notting Hill street festival in celebration of the cultural mix in the area and was involved in the organisation of the Notting Hill Carnival until the early 70s.

Husbands: Terence A. Laslett, m. 1947 (div.), James O'Brien, m. 1968. Her names have included: Frederica R.A.J. Pulvernes or Gibbons, Laslette.
