King Caedwalla of Wessex

Categories: Royalty

Countries: Italy

King of Wessex c.685 - 688 when he abdicated. Through battle he won the territories of Sussex, the Isle of Wight, Surrey and Kent. Probably prompted by a wound, he abdicated and travelled to Rome for baptism by the Pope which he achieved just 10 days before his death.

Not to be confused with King Cadwaladr with similar dates, associated with Ludgate.
