Born as Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, he was immensely successful with Andrew Ridgeleyin the 1980s pop music duo Wham! (Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go) and then in a solo career.

Died at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, on Christmas day. Guardian obit.
