George Daniels

Horologist. Born in Sunderland. During his lifetime, he was considered to be the best watchmaker in the world, and was one of the few who built complete watches by hand (including the case and dial). His main claim to fame, was his creation of the coaxial escapement, which removed the need to add a lubricant to the movement. He wrote 'Watchmaking', which remains one of the most definitive books on horology.
