George Canning

Prime Minister 1827-1827 (only 119 days, the shortest PM tenure). Born Marylebone. 21 September 1809, Putney Heath, fought a duel with Lord Castlereagh, Secretary of State for War, over the deployment of troops. Should they go to the Netherlands or Portugal? Castlereagh was a crack shot, Canning wasn't and was wounded in the thigh. Died Chiswick House, Middlesex, whilst in office.

October 2022: Liz Truss resigned as PM after just 45 days, easily beating Canning who, after 119 days, died in office, which is cheating really, isn't it? The next shortest is Canning's replacement, F. J. Robinson, 1st Viscount Goderich (me neither) who resigned after only 144 days.
