Basil Marsden Smedley

Barrister and local politician in Chelsea. Born and lived his entire adult life in Chelsea.  At the age of 16 lost the use of his right arm. Member of Chelsea Borough Council 1928 until his death. Mayor of Chelsea for 1957-59. Member of the LCC 1933 - 1946. The photo shows him, centre, at an LCC meeting in 1936.

Middle name Futvoye. Surname sometimes hyphenated as Marsden-Smedley.

Our colleague Andrew Behan found Smedley's dates and his probate effects totalled £37,472.
