Anthropologist and poet. Born at Viewfield, in Selkirk. Chiefly known for his publications on folklore, mythology, and religion. He was one of the founders of 'psychical research' and his writings on anthropology include 'The Book of Dreams and Ghosts'. He served as President of the Society for Psychical Research in 1911. Died at the Tor-na-Coille Hotel, Banchory, Kincardineshire.
