From Dartford Archive: "In the early days the company specialised in heavy foundry-based engineering. Later on, the company developed a specialisation in refrigeration engineering."

We wondered why the Royal Carriage Department didn't use their colleagues in the Royal Brass Foundry for this work. But, despite its name, the RBF seems to have specialised in barrel boring which we can see is quite different work from casting the metal cheeks and trails of a field carriage (we've been reading up on carriage vocab.)
