Plaque

Smith and Littlejohn - heroes

Inscription

In memory of Anthony Smith, G.C. Who on 23rd February, 1944 carried out an heroic act of rescue following a bombing raid near to this place and was awarded the George Cross and the Freedom of the Borough of Chelsea
and
Albert Littlejohn B.EM. Who was honoured for his role in the same rescue.

The plaque says the rescue occurred ‘near to this place’, when in fact it happened at the ‘World’s End’ area of Chelsea which is about half a mile away.
