Sir Simon Milton statue - Paddington

Erection date: 11/9/2014

Inscription

{On the plaque attached to the bench behind the statue's left hand:}
Sir Simon Milton, 1961-2011, Deputy Mayor of London, 2008 - 2011, Leader of Westminster City Council 2000-2008.

{There is a lot more text on this plaque but it is illegible, either not incised sharply enough when made or worn away (by 2021) by excessive cleaning. But then we found a photo of the plaque or one very like it, taken on 17 November 2014, which is perfectly legible:}

As a councillor representing nearby Lancaster Gate Ward between 1988 and 2008, Sir Simon held the regeneration of Paddington close to his heart and as Leader of the Council he was instrumental in ensuring that the plans for breathing new life into Paddington became reality.

In 2008 Sir Simon became the Deputy Mayor of London for Policy and Planning and subsequently the Mayor of London's Chief of Staff.

The stunning waterspace and thriving residential and commercial neighbourhood of Merchant Square surrounding you today is a testament to Sir Simon's determination to create a new West End quarter at Paddington.

Unveiled by Eric Pickles. To our eyes, Milton's jacket looks too big for him, making him appear a small man.
