The Ladbroke Conservation Area Appraisal says: "Outside St John’s church is an item of street furniture that is very rare in London. The drinking fountain was funded by a local doctor who lived at 40 Ladbroke Grove and is inscribed: ‘The gift of John Waggett M.D. 1882.’ It is a circular form and made of polished granite with the water dispenser in the form of an urn. It replaced one that had been installed within the railings of the church {in 1877}."

We'd quibble with the "very rare" but we have an idea of where they got that from - see the SW16 Prater fountain.
