This building was built in 1981 by Tower Hamlets Council and was named after John Sutton Nettlefold (1792 - 1866), a British industrialist and entrepreneur.

No explanation for the choice of name is given and we are not aware that Nettlefold was associated in any way with Tower Hamlets.
