Bowler plaque - Merry-Go-Round

Erection date: 1995

The image on the plaque is taken from Merry-Go-Round, Mark Gertler's 1916 painting, possibly inspired by the roundabout at the annual Hampstead Fair near where he lived at the time.

This cast-iron roundel is one of 22 - see Bowler's page for more details.

E1, Elder Street, 32

This is a lovely 18th century cobbled street in which the blue plaque is garishly anachronistically. The plaque was erected in 1975 when Spitalfields was not valued the way it is now. We would prefer one with more respect for its surroundings, such as Priestley's plaque in Highgate.

The pavement plaque is immediately below the blue plaque. Installed (or possibly re-installed) between Sept 2014 and Dec 2016.
