E9, Cresset Street

We were very taken by the ziggurat architecture (satellite view is good) and pleased to find this explanation, at docplayer: "Lennox House is a listed building that was built in .. It was designed by U E M MacGregor for Bethnal Green and East London Housing Association. Prince George Duke of Kent at the opening of Lennox House in {sic, we think this refers to an image that is not included.} The generous balconies were made possible by having stepped sections. The 35 flats are arranged with three-bedroom flats on the first floor, one-bedroom flats on the top floor, and two-bedroom flats on the levels in between. LENNOX HOUSE, HACKNEY Originally the area beneath the flats was intended to be a covered market, with the income used to subsidise rents. However, land at that time was deemed to be for residential use only. During the Second World War Hackney Council rented the area to store air raid precaution equipment, and as a decontamination centre."
