To commemorate his long and varied services both public and private during a residence of 30 years in Dulwich this fountain is erected from the contributions of many friends and neighbours of every station.
He died 19th Novr. 1876 aged 78 years.

{On a small plaque attached to the southern face, above the bowl:}
Restored by the London Borough of Southwark, the Dulwich Society and the Civic Trust to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, 1977.
