William F. Brown, Bishop of Pellla

Categories: Religion

Countries: Scotland

Born in Aberdeen or Dundee (depending on source). When he was eleven his whole family converted from Episcopalian to Roman Catholic. Parish priest for 58 years of St. Anne's, Vauxhall. Appointed Bishop of Pella 12 March 1924. This is a 'titular see' which we think means that the role associated with the title has nothing to do with the town of Pella in what is now Greece. Died Southwark. His great-niece has written the book illustrated in our picture.

He appears in this British Pathe news clip; the senior clergyman, seated.
