W. A. Roust

W. A. Roust

District Staff Officer in the St John Ambulance Brigade, No. 1 District, 1909-1940. Officer in the Order of St John.

The Straits Times, 29 September 1940, Page 2 carried an obituary: "WESTMINSTER A. R. P. Services are mourning the death of W. A. Roust, 60-year old veteran of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, who was superintendent of Westminster stretcher parties. During the past three weeks of the blitzkrieg, he was a tireless and fearless leader. People sheltering in a basement on Wednesday night were wounded and trapped by a shower of debris. Water poured in from a burst main As rescue work was being organized a time bomb was reported. The area was roped off. There was only the faintest, chance of saving the trapped victims in the basement. Roust took that chance. He stepped over the rope and crawled into the wreckage. He was still there administering first aid when the time bomb exploded."

William Arthur Roust was honour with an obituary in First Aid, the Independent Journal for the Ambulance and Nursing Services, July 1940.
