Terence MacSwiney

Playwright, author and politician. Born Terence James MacSwiney in Cork. Elected as MP for Mid Cork in 1918, and as Lord Mayor of Cork in 1920. On 12th August 1920, he was arrested by the British for possession of seditious articles and documents. He was court martialled and sentenced to two years' imprisonment in Brixton Prison. He immediately went on hunger strike, and died after 73 days.
