Sir Edward David Stern

1st and last Baronet of Chertsey. Son of David Stern. Army officer and businessman. Stern Bros. of 57 Gracechurch Street were merchant banks and manufacturers of lubricating oils. Stern Brothers was one of the most successful banking houses in London in the second half of the 1800s. Stern's main hobby was breeding Shire and Percheron horses at two of his farms - Trumps Farm in Longcross and Hersham Farm in Hersham. A major in the Berkshire Imperial Yeomanry and became High Sheriff of Surrey in 1904. Knighted in 1904 and made a baronet in 1922.
