Robert Brown

Botanist. Born Montrose, Scotland.

Librarian and curator of Joseph Banks' collection in Soho Square from 1810, and on Banks' death in 1820 Brown inherited the library and collection and was provided with accommodation in the back part of the building. In 1822 he leased the front part to the Linnean Society. In 1827 he presented the library and collection to the British Museum.
