First President and first Prime Minister of Ghana. Born in the Gold Coast Colony, now Ghana. Birth date uncertain. As a young man he studied first in the USA and then London, at the LSE. While in London he met George Padmore.  Returned to the Gold Coast in 1947 to take up a political role. As the leader of the government he declared Ghana an independent country and a member of the Commonwealth in March 1957.  Died in a hospital in Bucharest, Romania.
