Jonathon McPhillips

Categories: Tragedy

At about 12:40am on Saturday 25th February 2017, 28 year old Jonathan McPhillips, also known as 'JJ', was attacked and stabbed in Upper Street near to Assembly Hall, Islington (at the Town Hall). He subsequently died from his injuries.

Barnsbury father-of-two. From Evening Standard: "Witnesses said Mr McPhillips, known as JJ, was knifed in an unprovoked attack as he shielded a teenage friend from a gang who ambushed them on a petrol station forecourt."

Islington Tribune reports that there is: "‘No realistic prospect of conviction’ of man charged with killing" and that "Michelle McPhillips, JJ’s mother ... has become an anti-knife crime campaigner..."

An early version of the memorial makes us think that 'Jonathon' is the correct spelling of the name.

McPhillips was good friends with another local young knife victim, Lee J. Hatley see there for the connections.
