Commemorated on a memorial as having served in, and survived, WW1.

Soldier. He fought at Gallipoli, and then at Fejja in Palestine. After his position had been captured, he took a supply of bombs and went alone along the communication trench, and attacked the enemy.

Awarded the VC for his heroism on 21 December 1917, age 22, while serving in the London Regiment (Finsbury Rifles). "In the open and on his own he continued to bomb the enemy. He undoubtedly cleared a difficult position at a most critical time and saved many lives. (Palestine)". Freemason at: №2795, Commercial Travellers Lodge.
