Bolckow's Flickr page shows another McCarthy memorial, to Cardinal Herbert Alfred Vaughan, and asserts that McCarthy had worked for John Francis Bentley at Westminster Cathedral for many years.

Source: Mapping Sculpture, where it seems there is little known about him.
