Philosopher and sociologist. Born Helsinki. Learnt English in order to read Darwin and others. Came to England in 1897 and frequently thereafter. Probably homosexual himself, he wrote on subjects such as 'The Origins Of Sexual Modesty', 1921. His research into reverse sexual imprinting (basically, not fancying a sibling) means that it is now known as the Westermarck effect. Died in southern Finland.
