Born Hertfordshire, a distant relative of Josiah Child. Joined the Anchor Brewery as a 'broomstick clerk' and rapidly became Child's son-in-law and partner. Ran the brewery 1693-1729. MP for Southwark. Many MPs were associated with the brewing business, which we are sure is unrelated to the fact that allegedly votes could be bought with a pint or two. Halsey was accused of this crime but did eventually gain the seat. Information from Thrale.com.
With no surviving sons of his own he brought a nephew into the business, his sister Anne's son, Ralph Thrale. Information from Thrale.com.
Died in or shortly before January 1730.
