David Ingman

David Charles Ingham was born on 22 March 1928, the younger son of Charles Ingman (1896-1983) and Hetty Muriel Ingham née Bevan (1897-1974). His father was a chemical engineer. The 1939 England and Wales Register shows him and his family, including elder brother Paul Ingman (1924-2015), living at 25 Del'Strother Avenue, Stockton-on-Tees, Durham. He attended Grangefield Grammar School, Stockton-on-Tees, Durham and went on to Durham University where he gained his BSc and MSc.

He married Elizabeth Walker in 1951 in Durham and their two daughters were born there; Heather Elizabeth Ingman (b.1953) and Suzanne C. Ingman (b.1957).

He was the Chairman of the British Waterways Board from 1987 to 1993 and was made a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 1993 New Year Honours List.

His death was announced in The Daily Telegraph. It read: INGMAN-David Charles CBE, M.Sc. died peacefully on 21st January 2021, aged 92. Much loved and loving husband of Elizabeth (Joan), proud and loving father to Heather and Suzanne, father-in-law to Ferdinand and Nigel; grandfather to Sebastian, Theo, Nicholas, and Andrew, and great grandfather of Evie. David loved life and laughter and will be greatly missed. Private family funeral and cremation. No flowers, thank you.
