Depending on different sources, it is the oldest, or second oldest lodge in the Craft Province of Masonry.
The original object was "to promote the spiritual and mental improvement of young men engaged in the drapery trade."
This is a very vague indication of who erected the plaque for P.D. James. We'd guess it's a group of local residents.
We can't find any information about this group, so can only assume that it's now defunct.
