Actor. Born in Dublin. During World War II, he served in the parachute regiment, and was one of the first to land in Normandy during Operation Overlord. He took up acting after the war, and one of his early roles was as Heathcliffe in a television production of 'Wuthering Heights'. He went on to a career in films, starring as Guy Gibson in 'The Dam Busters'. He was the first choice to play James Bond on film, but was unable to do it because of other commitments.
