Doulton drinking fountain - Henry Fawcett

Site: Doulton drinking fountain - Henry Fawcett (1 memorial)

SW8, Vauxhall Park

From Friends of Vauxhall Park: c.1891 "The contents from {Henry Fawcett's} house raised £75.10s (£75.50) which was accepted by Sir Henry Doulton for 'a very fine Fountain made of Doulton Ware' The fountain was worth nearer £250 but Doulton ‘just happened to have it on hand’". That same page has an image (on this page) of what we take to be that fountain. The Master plan for the Park gives: ".. was installed centrally within a paved space designed by Fanny Wilkinson ..." and "By 1914 a bandstand had replaced the fountain ... " We can find no further record and wonder what happened to it.

Our image, from the 1892-1914 OS map, gives the location of the "D.Fn".
