Fountain

Violet Alice Tritton fountain

Erection date: /9/1959

Inscription

{On the stone to the left:}
In memory of Violet Alice Tritton, 1883 - 1956

{On the stone to the right:}
A friend of Bermondsey for more than fifty years

{On the stone below, the outline of a lion rampant with a 'B' at its centre and:}
1959

These four limestone blocks need a good clean.  The PMSA incorrectly identifies the creature as the 'Bermondsey dragon' but does confirm that the arrangement below (behind the cast-off furniture) was originally a drinking fountain.

Site: Violet Alice Tritton fountain (1 memorial)

SE1, Abbey Street, Bromleigh , St Saviour's Estate

We might move a fag end but generally we like to photograph memorials as we find them. That's not to say we always like the way we find them - this one seems particularly ignored and unloved.
