Elijah Waring

Inscription

Waring House
This building was built in 1959 by the London County Council and was named after Elijah Waring (1788 - 1857), who was a Welsh Quaker and a writer.

No explanation for the choice of name is given and we are not aware that Waring was associated in any way with Tower Hamlets, but we note that 1957 was the centenary of his death.
