This block was built in 1976 by Tower Hamlets Council and is named after the famous British naturalist Charles Darwin (1809 - 1882), the author of "The Origin of Species".

No explanation for the choice of name is given and we are not aware that Darwin was associated in any way with Tower Hamlets.
